CREATE THE LOOK
BATTEN UP
Weathertex Weathergroove panels are perfect to create the Batten Up look. Primed or Natural panels are used as the main building façade. Batten dimensions, spacing and profiles can be consistent and uniform, or alternatively they can be varied, to create unique sequences for a customised look. When multiple timber battens are added in a series, they create a linear effect that adds texture, dimension and rhythm to a façade or interior. Create the look with Weathertex.
INSTALLING WEATHERTEX WITH BATTENS
STEP 1 – Product selection
Weathergroove has a range of panels with various groove spacing, including 150, 300, 600, 1200mm, Fusion and a range of textures.
STEP 2 – Weathergroove Installation
Install the Weathergroove panels according to the latest Weathertex
Installation Manual using the Weathergroove joiner and joining method.
This ensures a mechanical, watertight expansion join between panels.
*Note: Aluminium Weathergroove joiner will be hidden by the batten
and therefore it can be used with the Natural range without being visible.
The use of the Weathergroove joiner allows off-stud joining and reduces
labour and wastage.
STEP 3 – Batten Selection
Select suitable battens from your local hardware store to create the desired effect. Ensure that the selected batten is:
• Suitable for external use
• Meets your aesthetic requirements
• Minimum 9.5mm thick
• Meets local, state and federal requirements (Such as Bushfire Attack Levels, Durability, Structure)
*Note: Chosen batten may exhibit tannin bleeding and may lead to slight
staining of the Weathertex or other materials.
STEP 4 – Batten Installation
Fasten through your selected batten and Weathertex into the structural subframe. Fasteners may penetrate the flanges of the Weathergroove joiner. Sealant may be required between the batten and Weathertex system for durability and additional weatherproofing. Horizontal battens not recommended.
*Note: It is the builders responsibility to ensure a suitable fit for purpose fastener is chosen for connecting the batten to the frame. Ensure the chosen fastener and fastening pattern meets structural requirements for attachments.
